The state police administration has been taking various steps for the welfare of its work force. Adequate departmental facilities are being provided, and the force is being supervised through proper functioning of facilities like messes, canteen, library, recreation rooms, women welfare centre, cinema and hospitals.

Punjab Police has the distinction of being the first state in the country to set up Punjab Police Academy at Phillaur. This Academy was first established in the year 1891 as Police Training School  to impart training in various disciplines to the Police Officers of all the ranks. The status of this training school was raised to Police Training College in   April, 1967,  which was finally  upgraded  to Punjab Police Academy in March, 1985. Every year, about 5,000 trainees of police get training in this Academy. they generally belong to Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Sikkim and Manipur States, Union Territories of Chandigarh, Delhi and Andeman-Nicobar island and organisations like Central Industrial Security Force and C.R.P.F.

Besides, trainee from the Department of  Prisons Punjab, guards of nationalised banks are also trained. Even IAS.PCS officers are imparted training on various aspects related to crime.

Officers who get training belong to different age groups, ranks, educational backgrounds and professional knowledge. In addition to the Academy at Phillaur there is  other institute named Police Recruits Training Centre  at Jahan Khelan in Hoshiarpur.

Regular meetings are being held for redress of grievances of police force. Problems concerning the personnel are brought on record and grievances redressed.
